We're all in this Davidson experience together. Let's lead with our shared values.
For me, fostering a strong community is one of my most deeply held values. I learned the importance of community from my parents, who came to America from Ecuador in the 1980s. My dad has put in very long hours working in building maintenance for over twenty-five years. My mom was a full-time college student and worker at the age of 17, rose to middle management in her early 20s, became a realtor, and is now a full-time mom to my sister and me. But no attempt for progress is linear, and no story is bereft of challenges and tough times. I learned young that, in the good times and the bad, we all had to stick together, and that although we could not take all the credit for all of our successes or assume all the blame for bad breaks and hard times, we had an obligation to each other to improve our lot.
At Davidson, I've done my best to uphold these values through my involvement on campus. I'm in my second year of involvement with the SGA, having served as Junior Class President for the last eleven months, and I've served on the Committee for Campus and Religious Life, the Religious Life Council, and the Catholic Campus Ministry leadership team. I'm running for Student Body President because I know that, with my experience, my record of working with others, Ben's experience and his track record, the vision we have outlined, and--most importantly--the conversations we have had and will continue to have with our classmates, we can work together to continue to build an even more welcoming community for all here at Davidson. Forging an inclusive progress, one where we preserve the best of who we are as a campus while challenging ourselves to do better in looking out for each other's needs and aspirations, is a challenge that we look forward to undertaking.

Strengthening community is, for me, essential to the
continued advancement of every individual at Davidson College. I came to
America from Jamaica in 1998 with my mother, older brother, and two sisters.
While learning to adapt to my new home, I had to become comfortable with who I
was while also embracing my surroundings. Since completing high school, I have
done everything in my power to maintain my cultural and individual identity,
and reinforce a spirit of cultural understanding in the people that I come
across every day at Davidson College.
I am continuing to advance this goal by running for Student Body Vice President. As a Health Adviser, I have worked on a number of issues essential to building a strong community of support on campus, from alcohol abuse to sexual assault to extreme cases of mental illness. I continue to counsel individuals across campus of the importance of finding things in our community that they can become a part of, learn from and, most importantly, grow within. Now, I plan to bring the knowledge I have gained in the field to our work in the SGA. I really look forward to working with Pablo to bring people together and deliver results for our community.
